World Poetry Day
Wednesday 21st March 2018. 7pm to 9.30pm.
Venue and cafe bar open at 6.30pm
The UGT celebrates this special day with an event in the main theatre, with poetry lovers musing on this year’s theme: The Old and the New – Youth and Age.
Local poets of all ages will perform poems to explore this theme in a variety of styles with vigour, lyricism and a range of thought and feeling.
A post-performance Open Mic session follows in the cafe.
World Poetry Day is celebrated on 21 March, and was declared by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999. Its purpose is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and, as the original UNESCO declaration says, to “give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements”
Entry Is Free
As usual, the UGT coffee bar is open throughout the day from 10am to 4pm for Fairtrade refreshments – drinks and cakes – at some of the very best prices in town.
With regret, the venue has no wheelchair access.
