The South Coast Big Band
Basie & Beyond with the South Coast Big Band featuring the music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich & many more.
If you like Big Band music then the place to be on Friday 27th July 2018 at 8pm is the Under Ground Theatre in Eastbourne – when the South Coast Big Band makes a welcome return to the stage for the UGT’s monthly Friday Jazz Night
As it says on the band’s website at South Coast Big Band – “Big bands making a comeback? They never went away!” and the South Coast Big Band are proof of that.
The band consists of some of the best jazz and swing musicians on the South Coast with a classic big band line-up of 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones and a rhythm section of piano, bass & drums.
With a library of music containing both standard arrangements and some originals especially commissioned for the band you can expect to hear the music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Tom Kubis, Thad Jones, Neil Hefti, Sammy Nestico, Lennie Neihaus, NYJO, Gordon Goodwin, Dave Wolpe, Rob McConnell and many more.
With a combination of great ensemble playing, superb jazz solos and of course swinging like a big band should, the South Coast Big Band are not to be missed. If you are a fan of the BBC Big Band you will love the South Coast Big Band.
As Duke Ellington said: “It Don’t Mean A Thing, If It Ain’t Got That Swing”
