Friday 28th April 2017 at 8pm. Venue and Cafe/Bar opens at 7.30pm
‘A Complete History of Jazz Piano.’ Mike Hatchard Trio with Bobby Worth (drums) and George Trebar (bass).
Tonight’s informative and entertaining tour through the ages will feature music from Jelly Roll Morton through to Chick Corea with tributes to many well known players (including J. P Johnson, Fats Waller, Bill Evans, Thelonius Monk, Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner and Art Tatum) as well as some lesser known personal favourites (e.g. Dodo Marmarosa and Willie ‘the Lion’ Smith).
For this extravaganza Mike is joined by two of the finest jazz musicians in the country. On drums no less than Bobby Worth, who is the favourite of many visiting American musicians. Among his many accolades, he has been voted ‘BBC Jazz Drummer of the Year,’ and is heavily featured on Mike’s latest CD ‘Cycling Land’s End to John O’Groats with a Piano’. And on double bass, a young man who is rapidly making a reputation for combining technical precision with a hypnotic swinging pulse, George Trebar.
Mike is a man of many talents. Enjoy his art exhibition in the UGT foyer from Friday 3rd February to Saturday 25th of February.
