A Piano-Guitar-Vocal-Kazoo-Stompbox Duo steeped in the Barrelhouse Boogie Blues House Party tradition of 1930’s downtown Chicago, BOOGA RED take you back in time, playing the songs of the early blues pioneers; Big Bill Broonzy, Tampa Red, Big Joe Turner; raggedy boogie woogie piano, riotous vocal and kazoo; rollicking blues guitar; music for dancing, drinking and carousing.

Booga Red

With outrageously authentic examples of fingerpickin’ guitar and honky tonk piano, Booga Red pay homage to the original innovators, and continue their legacy with new songs. Bringing their own big sound to the old blues and boogie that contained the exciting early sparks that fizzled and crackled and finally exploded, this is the Blues Roots of Rock’nRoll!
Formed in 2015, a busy touring schedule saw Booga Red playing all over, with gig listings from London’s Green Note Café and Spice Of Life to Newark’s Flying Circus, Reading Blues, and the New Crawdaddy in Essex. The debut CD “They’re Red Hot” has been well received, garnering good reviews in Blues in Britain and Blues Matters Magazine.

Steve has, throughout a 30-year professional performing career, always maintained a passion for the delta and Chicago blues of the 1920/30s. His driving guitar and vocal style echo that of the great Big Bill Broonzy.

Claire has spent over 20 years playing on the Jump Jive and Rock’n’Roll circuits, performing all over the UK and Europe. The influence of the 50’s R’n’R piano legends has lead her back to explore the origins of their music; 1930’s boogie woogie and blues.

A departure from the norm, Booga Red are an exciting addition to the roots blues scene, with radio plays, a debut CD and live performances all receiving enthusiastic reaction.

“…..a highly professional and entertaining couple of hours…. I can’t stress enough what a fine blues drenched duo they make.” – Keith Woods, Tales From The Woods Roots Music Magazine.

“What a great gig, really loved your sound and seeing what brilliant musicians you are.”
“Booga Red’s barrelhouse blues went down brilliantly at the Anchor – and our crowd know a thing or two about the blues…!” – Sue Revell, Blues With Bottle Club
