Saturday Morning Music – Free Concerts at the UGT Every Saturday
BLACK STRAP MOLASSES.
Saturday 8th July 2017. 10am to 12 noon. Venue open at 9.30am.
Top Eastbourne folk group Black Strap Molasses are back at the town’s Under Ground Theatre for their seasonal concert.
As usual, the music lasts from 10am until noon and entry is free. Be sure to arrive early as : BSM have a reputation for packing in the crowds, especially when vocalist Melody Westcott is in the line-up!
So: grab a seat, and be entertained by a wide range of songs to make you happy, songs to make you melancholy, and songs to make you think, all to the accompaniment of rhythm guitar, bass guitar, and keyboard – plus the occasional harmonica.
Some old favourites are bound to be included: maybe Boo Hewerdine’s “Bible Pages”, Jim Page’s chilling “Headful of Pictures” (about the Iraq war) or “Dead Skunk In The Middle Of The Road” (about nothing in particular!)
It’s also a safe bet you’ll be hearing some of the numbers from the band’s latest CDs. Among them, perhaps: Chumbawamba’s tilt at the Facebook age, the blackly humorous “Add Me” or “Eastbourne in Winter”.
Throughout their performance, Fairtrade coffee and tea and home-made cakes will be on sale in the Under Ground coffee-bar – which will stay open until 4pm for viewing of the latest foyer art exhibition.
Entry is free.
With regret, the venue has no wheelchair access.
A Hearing Loop is available on request.
